About Us

The Lavey Insurance Agency is a family owned and operated (3rd generation) insurance agency that was established in the early 30's by Lee Lavey, in a very unusual manner. Back then, Lee owned the Lavey Hardware store on Main Street, which he had recently opened. This was during the "Great Depression".

The bank manager, a friend of his, let him know that the People's State Bank, was going under and would he be interested in taking over the small amount of insurance policies that they were servicing.

Therefore, the agency was established in a small office, in the back of the hardware store, at 114 West Main Street. This continued until Lee's son Jim, became licensed in 1960 and took over the operation. The business expanded and on January 2, 1973, he moved the agency into the remodeled John Deere building across the street at 125 West Main Street, which is still the current home of the agency.

Jim's daughter Sandy, began her career with the agency in 1981, thru the "Co-Op" program at Pinckney High School and became a licensed agent in 1985. In September of 2020, Sandy continued the family tradition and is the current agency owner.

We are an independent insurance agency serving the local Pinckney/Hamburg community, as well as Livingston, Washtenaw and Ingham counties, but have customers throughout the state of Michigan. We provide excellent customer service and are here to meet your needs for home, auto, life and business insurance.

We are located at 125 W. Main Street, in downtown Pinckney, across the street from the Pinckney Hardware and next to the Marathon gas station.

We are open from 9:00 am – 5:00 pm Monday thru Friday to service all of your insurance needs.
